Holiday bonfires return to LA starting this weekend, here is where to find them

The Louisiana holiday tradition of lighting Santa’s way by setting fire to large-scale bonfires returns to the New Orleans area beginning this Saturday at Algiers Point.

The event starts this Saturday, Dec. 4, at 5:30 p.m. at 201 Morgan Street in Algiers. The event features a 30-foot tall bonfire. Local vendors will serve up food while live music will be headlined by DJ Rik Ducci, All Saints Church Choir, and LB Landry Jazz Ensemble.

St. James Parish is known for its event featuring several creatively constructed bonfire structures, which are lit to guide Santa on Christmas Eve.

The event was canceled last year due to COVID restriction but makes a return this Christmas Eve.

Parish President Pete Dufresne noted, "I am overjoyed to have this special event return to our community this year. I want to thank our parish council, the festival of the bonfires officials, and our local leaders for working together to ensure this event was made possible again this year. I look forward to sharing in the holiday season with our residents and I know this Christmas will be one to remember."

The bonfire event will be from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at is located at 1094 Airline Hwy 61 in Gramercy Louisiana.
