Holiday weekend party leads to shooting in St. Charles Parish

Cops Sunday asked for help after a Saturday night shooting in Boutte.

"The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance for information on a shooting that occurred Saturday, July 1, 2023, around 11:15 P.M. in the 300 block of River Ridge Drive," Spokeswoman Amanda Pertuis said in a news release.

She says deputies were dispatched to the area based on the report of a fight at a party.

"While they were enroute, deputies learned a male had been shot and left the location to go to the hospital."

As police pulled up at the party, people scattered.

"When deputies arrived at the location, they observed several vehicles fleeing the area. Through investigation, detectives have learned that two females at the party were fighting. The fight was broken up and partygoers were told to leave. Witnesses reported hearing gunshots."

Apparently the bullets only hit one bystander.

"The twenty-year-old male victim was located at a local hospital with three non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to the bicep, abdomen, and waist.

Pertuis calls it an ongoing active investigation.

"We are urging anyone with any information including citizens in the area with home surveillance or Ring camera systems to review their video footage and to contact Detective Joshua DeRoche with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office at jderoche@stcharlessheriff.org, (985) 783-6807, or (985) 783-1135. Citizens may also contact CRIMESTOPPERS at 1-877-903-STOP. You do not have to give your name nor testify and could receive up to a $2,500 reward for information leading to an arrest."
