Hollygrove arson suspect identified, wanted

Cameron Hassert
New Orleans Fire Department

New Orleans police and fire investigators are searching for a man they say intentionally set a home on fire.

Cameron Hassert, 35, is wanted on an aggravated arson charge in connection with a fire that happened at a residence in the Hollygrove part of town. Authorities say Hassert set fire to a home on Forshey Street near Eagle Street around 1:40 p.m. Monday. Hassert is also wanted on an aggravated cruelty to animals charge. However, authorities did not say if that charge is related to the fire.

According to police, Hassert was last seen riding a black Harley Davidson motorcycle near the intersection of Forshey and Eagle just before 8 p.m. Monday, some six hours after the fire happened. Officials say Hassert was wearing a bright yellow shirt and no helmet. They also say he had a large knife strapped to his waist.

If you know where Hassert is, call the New Orleans Fire Department Arson Unit at 504-658-4770 or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
