With the St. Patrick’s Day parade canceled in New Orleans, residents in the Irish Channel take a que from the Krewe of House Floats by decorating their homes in St. Patrick’s Day themed decorations.
The group calls the Irish celebration ‘Shamrock our Blocks’ and it is the brainchild of Chicago's Southside Irish Parade Organization.
The New Orleans version of the celebration will be heavily influenced by the Krewe of House Floats said the event organizer. The group also plans to soon have an online map highlighting the locations of decorated homes.
Instead of parading in the Irish Channel on St. Patrick’s Day, people can walk, bike, or drive to see these elaborate decorations and maybe catch a cabbage or two.
