How does Trump's backing of Julia Letlow affect Cassidy's ability to raise money?

U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy may have picked up a new opponent in the Louisiana Republican primary in Congresswoman Julia Letlow, but even with a growing list of challengers within his own party, one thing Cassidy has not had to worry about is campaign money.

Cassidy has millions of dollars more in his war chest than Letlow or his other opponents, but Letlow may have something better than money, at least for conservative voters.

"Well, she's raised the most important thing in this race right now, and that's the endorsement of Donald Trump., said political analyst Pearson Cross.

Cross says the question is, will President Trump appear at campaign fundraisers on Letlow's behalf.

"Will Donald Trump, in addition to just endorsing her, go ahead and actually help her with fundraising?" questions Cross. "Will he appear with her? Will he connect her to any networks that he has? I think in this instance, he probably will, I think his pride is on the line -- Bill Cassidy voted for his impeachment, and I think he very much wants to deliver some payback."

Cross says Mr. Trump could also spook Republicans who might otherwise back Cassidy, for fear of getting on the president's bad side.
