Hurricane Center designates 'Potential Tropical Cyclone 1'
National Hurricane Center

The National Hurricane Center has issued a tropical storm watch for much of southern Florida as conditions are favorable for a tropical cyclone to develop off the Yucatan peninsula in the next few days.

The path does not take it near Louisiana's coast.

"On the forecast track, the system should move across the southeastern Gulf of Mexico through Friday night, and then move across the southern and central portions of the Florida Peninsula on Saturday," said Senior Hurricane Specialist Dr. Jack Beven.

The watch extends south from Sarasota, Florida, and includes the Dry Tortugas and Florida Keys, and extends up the Atlantic coast of Florida through Cape Canaveral.
