The National Hurricane Center is forecasting a hurricane in the tropics by Thursday.
"A tropical wave in the Atlantic Ocean has been designated Potential Tropical Cyclone 5," WWL TV Meteorologist Payton Malone explained. "It is forecast to strengthen into a tropical storm today."
Ernesto is the next name on the list.
"It could then become a hurricane by Wednesday as it passes over or near some of the northern Caribbean islands including Puerto Rico."
Malone says Ernesto will stay away from the US and the Gulf of Mexico.
"The steering pattern shows it should get drawn to the north over the Atlantic Ocean roughly toward Bermuda by next weekend. This would keep it away from the United States."
There are no other current threats in the tropics.
