A U.S. Air Force hurricane reconnaissance plane found a closed center of circulation Monday in the tropical system off the Louisiana coast, confirming it as Tropical Depression Five.
At 28 degrees north, 90.8 degrees west, the depression is moving west-northwest near five miles per hour.
With maximum sustained winds of 35 miles per hour, it is just below tropical storm strength and could become Tropical Storm Edouard before tomorrow.
Tropical storm warnings remain in effect from the Vermilion/Cameron Parish line to Port Bolivar in Texas.
