I-10 flooded after pumps shut down

The New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board has released few details, but says two pumps turn off ahead of the flooding that shut down Interstate Ten near the Orleans / Jefferson line Monday.

"One of the known issues we had today was two pumps at the Drainage Pumping Station on I-10 tripping offline," according to a statement from the S&WB.

The Interstate went under water under the train bridge between Pontchartrain Blvd. and City Park Blvd.  It was closed for nearly half an hour

"An operator was able to get these pumps back online," according to the board's statement.

Authorities say more than 5 inches of rain fell at the pumping station alongside the underpass on I-10.

New Orleans City Councilman Joe Giarrusso wants answers.

"I don't know if it was an electrical problem, if there was operator error... we'll have to find out in the next couple of days when we get the report," he told WWL TV.  "Every part of the system, particularly with this heavier rain, has to work."

Other roads and underpasses flooded in spots around New Orleans and Slidell.
