(AP) — Remains found in a submerged car this month have been confirmed as those of a woman missing for 28 years — the sister of a former CNN news anchor.

The Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Office said Thursday that the Louisiana State University FACES lab has verified that the bones are those of 40-year-old Kara Enid Vaughn.

She was reported missing on Nov. 3, 1993. Her sister is former Headline News anchor Lyn Vaughn.

The sheriff's office had searched murky Cane River several times without finding the car.

It was found after a college student sent the sheriff's office a picture and location of a fishing sonar scan.
