As federal agents conduct raids and make arrests in the New Orleans area, there have been some limited protests.

A handful of activists interrupted Thursday's New Orleans City Council meeting... chanting and holding signs.

The council went into recess as the group repeated "shut it down" and waved signs in the council chambers.

The protesters called for the creation of zones that are off limits to immigration enforcement officials.

It comes as US Border Patrol carries out an operation they are calling "Catahoula Crunch."

Agents have been hitting home improvement stores, approaching Latino people on the streets and targeting other areas since Wednesday.

The City Council launched an online “Know Your Rights” portal where people can report suspected abuse from immigration officers and know their rights.

Federal officials say the operation has already resulted in the detention of illegal immigrants suspected of murder, rape and kidnapping.
