LSP: Impaired driver crashes into trooper vehicle, passenger arrested on weapons charges

An impaired driver crashed into a Louisiana State trooper’s marked police unit which leads to the passenger getting arrested on weapons a charge.

State Police say on Thursday, at around 3:30 am, a trooper was traveling in his marked police unit west on I-10 near Causeway Blvd.

They say at the same time, 26-year-old Jaylyn Gordon was driving a 2009 Acura TSX. When Gordon passed the trooper at a high rate of speed he changed lanes and clipped the right front side of the trooper’s vehicle.

State Police say Gordon was found to be impaired and driving with a suspended driver’s license.

Dexter Reed, 24, was a passenger in Gordon’s vehicle and the investigation found Reed had an active warrant for his arrest in Baton Rouge pertaining to charges of theft and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon said authorities.

Troopers also found two 9mm Glock pistols, one of which had been converted to a fully automatic handgun. No injuries were reported as a result of the crash.

Gordon was arrested for Driving While Impaired; Driving with Suspended License; No Seatbelt and several traffic-related charges. Reed was arrested for Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon (2 counts); No Seatbelt and the outstanding warrant. Gordon and Reed were transported to and booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center.
