Organizers for the Irish Channel St. Patrick’s Day parade announced Friday that the parade is now cancelled for 2021.

The parade is canceled due to the continued COVID-19 safety concerns and restrictions set in place by the City of New Orleans, said organizers.

This is the second consecutive year the parade has been cancelled due to the pandemic. Organizers had hoped to roll in 2021 with their largest membership ever, some 1,400 plus, after last year's parade was called off at the very beginnings of the coronavirus pandemic in Louisiana.

Restrictions are currently at phase two in New Orleans, and the city could not find a way to make Mardi Gras parades roll safely earlier this month.

Additionally, the annual Irish Channel St. Patrick’s Day Block Party at Annunciation Playground benefiting St. Michael Special School is also cancelled.
