New Orleans trumpeter and Grammy-winning musician, Irvin Mayfield along with his business partner Ronald Markham, are in court to face their sentencing.

Their sentencing hearing comes a year after the pair faced a federal judge and pleaded guilty to transferring over $1.3 million from N.O. Public Library donations, to pay their own salaries with the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra. Mayfield was on the public library board and approved the money transfer. Mayfield later resigned from the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra which agreed to pay back the Library Foundation $96,000 a year in retribution.

The scheme was uncovered by WWLTV back in 2016. The news outlet discovered documents that showed Mayfield spent money from the Library Foundation on lavish trips and a 24 karat gold-plated trumpet.

Mayfield and his business partner Markham were indicted in 2017. The pair face up to five years in prison.
