Could Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry's push to completely overhaul Louisiana's tax system help stem the state's population loss and brain drain?
GNO Inc. President Michael Hecht says that's probably a big reason why Gov. Landry feels compelled to enact sweeping changes. Hecht notes that Louisiana is an outlier among most of the rest of the Gulf Coast.
"Louisiana has been, has been falling behind," Hecht told WWL's Newell Normand. "The south over the past ten years gained 3.5 million in population and we lost 40,000."
Hecht says the comparison is stark when the Pelican State is held up against its neighbors.
"Look at Texas and Louisiana in terms of the things that matter, Newell: economic output, population," said Hecht. "Unfortunately you have a South Korea/North Korea comparison. You can see it from space."
