Will Louisiana lawmakers back off on regulations for auto and property insurance companies?
New state Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple is working to convince legislators that deregulation is the key to addressing skyrocketing insurance rates.
"It's not a popular approach, but it is the realistic approach," Tim Temple told WWL's Tommy Tucker.
He says that making things easier and better for the insurers will increase competition and slow the increasing rates.
"We are trying to face head on that insurance companies do not have to do business in our state, and if we give them any reason... they are going to take their dollars, and they are going to go do business somewhere else."
Temple said he is discussing his plans with officials and lawmakers ahead of upcoming votes.
