It’s a sobering moment to see a grown man crying outside a bar and learn through the crowd he just lost a large amount of money on the game.
But after so many years of being a dominating team and ending up running for the Super Bowl; Saints fans took a sobering look at what happened Sunday night and many were ready to make a sobering decision.
“It’s Drew’s last game, it’s really sad, I love him, he’s been great for the city, for sure. But it’s his last game,” So the first sober fan replied. The rest just piled on:
“He under-performed, he threw picks, you can’t have that.”
“I love Drew Brees as much as the next guy, but, legacy is going to be tarnished. Because, he was never able to get it done.”
“I do think this is it for Drew,” one clearly soused fan spoke through watering eyes. “I mean he gave it his all, could’ve made it. Never did, other than ’05.”
The last cut was the deepest: “I think there are better options than Drew Brees. It’s time for him to retire, I would love to see Deshaun Watson come in.”
Now, to be fair, there are still plenty of fans faithful to Number 9 and their passion for the Comeback Kid burned brightly.
“Love, love, love, the Drew Brees, my whole heart, love him!” One female fan said with a smile on her face.
“He’s warrior, you know, he’s Drew Brees!” Another fan replied as he pulled on a Tiparillo inside Barcadia.
Another fan who had too many Red Bulls spoke in rapid fire sentences: “Drew Brees got one more year, Tom Brady retires, Drew Brees is retiring, Drew Brees, if he comes back next year—Super Bowl baby!”
Drew is clearly more popular with women than guys. When I asked one female fan if Drew was going to retire, she replied directly, “No! I hope not. I don’t think so.”
“I think Drew still has his ability to come back—it’s not over!” another woman said with absolute assurance.
“I certainly admire Drew Brees,” another male fan chimed in. “His intention at coming back after so much turbulence in this whole season.”
Finally, one person summed it all up: “If you had to be pushed out of the game, who better to do it than Tom Brady?”
