Who's headed out of town this week? A lot of us.

More than 55 million people are traveling 50 miles or more in the U.S. AAA Louisiana's Don Redman says there will be millions in our area alone.

"When you encompass in the rest of the Gulf Coast, from Mississippi on to Florida, you're talking about ten million people regionally, moving around," said Redman.

Wednesday will be the day most drivers hit the road, mostly after noon.

"If you can start on your travels earlier that morning, and I'm talking much earlier, try and avoid some of that crunch time, it's going to make it easier," Redman said.

In total, it's a more than two percent increase in travelers compared to last year.

"It's going to be extremely busy on the roads, as well as to the airport," he said.

While the number of drivers is up 1.7 percent from last year, the share of people flying is up 6.6 percent. Redman says if you're flying, get to the airport two hours before your flight leaves.
