New Orleans is at its highest level for the Coronavirus threat.

It’s an outbreak with some of the numbers not seen since the earliest days of the pandemic.

What this means is skyrocketing numbers of new cases, and the threat of pulling back phases, and returning to tightened restrictions on going outside.

This includes a potential lockdown if it gets bad enough.

This isn’t meant to scare you.

It’s meant to make you take seriously there is a second wave of COVID that is out there.

Last week New Orleans’ COVID-19 Dashboard reported a seven-day average 81 new cases of COVID a day.

The positive test rate climbed to more than 2%.

This lead New Orleans Health Director, Dr. Jennifer Avegno to state:

“You can read every day it seems like there’s a new state or a new city that is going far back to lockdown.  We do not want to do that.”

State Fire Marshall Butch Browning responded to the spike in numbers:

“Bottom line is people are getting sick.  We know when people get sick and we know when hospitalizations occur, the end result is we see some people who die.”

The spiraling upward trajectory of the disease comes as the holiday season is about to begin.

“I’m asking everyone for Thanksgiving, please keep it small,” Avegno appealed to the public. “Please keep it distant. Please keep it outside as much as you possible can.”

Avegno’s appeal came as parties and gatherings are now the main spreaders of the virus.
