New Orleans DA Jason Williams announces a special investigation into James Singleton Charter School over alleged criminal misappropriation of over a million dollars.
Williams didn’t provide many details at a Thursday press conference but he did say the alleged misappropriation at the Central City school occurred over a number of years.
“It is critically important that we get to the bottom of these allegations to ensure some degree of public confidence in all that we all need to be doing in collectively supporting and building up our young people,” said Williams.
Williams said his office will be issuing subpoenas in the coming days and if criminal wrongdoing is confirmed, it will result in felony charges.
“Our inquiry will be as to why there would ever be a situation where public funds for a school would be spent on anything else other than that school and that is where this investigation will go and we will follow wherever the evidence takes us,” said Williams.
