Jazz Fest reopens today, and this afternoon, The Rolling Stones make their festival debut -- five years after they were first booked.
For fans of the Stones, and of Jazz Fest, this has been a long time coming.
"The first time we had'em was 2019, and then Mick Jagger had that heart problem, and they canceled the whole tour," said Jazz Fest producer Quint Davis. "So then we re-booked them again, for 2020, and they had this thing called the pandemic."
The pandemic canceled the fest in both 2020 and 2021.
Davis said there is a lot that must fall into place to book the Rolling Stones for a gig.
"They don't tour often, they don't tour the United States that often," he said. "If you're in a cycle where they're going to tour America, when is that going to be? It could be any time of year," said Davis. "When are they going to tour the U.S.? 'Oh, in April and May.' Oh, really?"
Now maybe Davis, and the fans, will finally get some satisfaction when the Rolling Stones take the festival stage this afternoon.
