Jefferson Parish sewer system is now 100% operational

Residents in Jefferson Parish can once again flush their toilets, wash clothes, and clean dishes now that the parish’s sewer treatment facilities have electricity restored.

After Hurricane Zeta did considerable damage to the region's power grid, many residents and businesses were left for days without power. This included many of Jefferson Parish’s sewer lift-stations, which help draw sewer waste from neighborhoods to the treatment facilities.

Last week Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng urged residents to curb their sewer use so wastewater entering the system would not over load the sewer system.

Today, parish leaders announced power is now, fully restored to the sewer system.
