Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng says their plan to run a pipeline up the river to stay ahead of the saltwater intrusion is a go, after meeting with the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness today.
"We got some good news at that meeting, so it was well worth the trip, that our plan was approved," Sheng said during a Friday afternoon news briefing.
Sheng said there are different plans for different water systems.
"Depending on the amount of water brought in at the different intakes, there's going to be different solutions." she said.
Work on a pipeline upriver, to stay ahead of the saltwater, could begin as early as next week. Sheng said that would supply the water treatment plants on both the east bank and west bank.
Gretna, which has a smaller water treatment facility that handles less volume, is going with water barges, tanker trucks, and reverse osmosis to address the matter.
