As we head into the Thanksgiving Holiday the risk of spreading the coronavirus skyrockets.
According to Jefferson Parish Coroner Gerry Cvitanovich, although the number of COVID cases has spiked, and the number of hospitalizations climbed slightly; the number of covid-related deaths have not.
Cvitanovich admits he is not sure why but suspects the health care system has gotten better at treating the virus compared to the beginning of the pandemic.
“They’ve got experience in, obviously much better at treating it than they were seven or eight months ago. That is cause for optimism as we roll into, hopefully, a vaccine next month,” said Cvitanovich.
As we head into the holidays, Cvitanovich says wearing a mask may not decrease the chances of you getting the virus rather it decreases the chances of a person spreading the virus. Cvitanovich says three weeks ago, he, his wife and children all contracted the coronavirus but have since made a full recovery.
“It decreases the likelihood of you giving it to someone else which is why everybody should be wearing their mask and distancing themselves and adjusting their plans for Thanksgiving,” Cvitanovich explained.
Cvitanovich knows first-hand how contagious the coronavirus can be. He, his wife and children have all contracted the virus and have since recovered.
