A woman and her boyfriend are facing negligent homicide charges in connection with the death of the woman's young son in Metairie.
Jefferson Parish sheriff's deputies arrested Karla Padilla-Pavon and Havet Vela-Espinoza following their investigation into the death.
According to Sheriff Joe Lopinto, deputies responded to a home on Mistletoe Street near South Myrtle Street around 9 p.m. Saturday. Lopinto says his deputies found Padilla-Pavon's son dead when they arrived. According to Lopinto, investigators learned that the child, who "required special care and continuous supervision," was left alone at the home for several hours. Lopinto also said the pair "delayed contacting emergency services" despite the child's condition.
The case remains under investigation.
