Jury convicts hitman, jilted lover in 2022 Metairie murder

Jefferson Parish Courthouse

A hitman and a woman who paid that hitman to kill her ex-boyfriend's new lover are awaiting sentencing after a Jefferson Parish jury convicted them in connection with the 2022 murder.

The jury convicted Louis Gordon of second-degree murder and Monica Every of principal to second-degree murder. Gordon faces a life sentence while Every faces at least 30 years in prison.

Every paid Gordon $10,000 to shoot and kill Charlene Jones after Every's ex broke up with her on Christmas Day 2021. According to prosecutors, Every was angry that her former beau left her after seven years to be with Jones. Prosecutors told the jury that prior to hiring Gordon to kill Jones, Every harassed Jones, including sending her a string of angry text messages and phone calls, paying Gordon to sprinkle "voodoo dust" on Jones's car, and planting a gun inside Jones's car and falsely reporting Jones to police for a homicide she didn't commit.

Gordon shot and killed Jones on January 27, 2022, outside her Metairie apartment as she was preparing to drive away for work. Jones's boyfriend heard the gunshot and found her dead inside her car. Police say they tracked him down because surveillance video showed him driving his girlfriend's car away from the apartment complex.

Sentencing is set for May 29.
