The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office says a standoff in Metairie between an armed man who shot at a couple of deputies and the SWAT team is over.
Authorities say the suspect shot at two deputies this morning, then barricaded inside a building at N. Turnbull Dr. near W. Esplanade Ave.
Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joe Lopinto said the suspect's wife told the sheriff's office that her husband was having "mental episodes" recently.
"When our deputies arrived on the scene, they communicated with him through the front window and he ended up firing shots from inside the house," said Lopinto.
The sheriff said the suspect even took out a JPSO robot that was on his front porch.
Authorities finally took custody of the man as he attempted to exit through the rear of the property.
The sheriff said the suspect was taken to a hospital for evaluation and mental treatment, but said he likely will face criminal charges once released from the hospital.
