Police in Mandeville used a k-9 officer to track down and detain an alleged domestic violence suspect hiding in the woods near Mandeville Elementary School.
The Mandeville Police Department says about 3 a.m. officers were called to a domestic disturbance incident between 35-year-old Daniel Hale Williamson and his girlfriend.
When officers arrived Williamson had fled the scene. His girlfriend told officers that Williamson had allegedly strangled and punched her. The responding officers obtained an arrest warrant for Williamson.
Later that morning, about 6 a.m., Williamson returned to his girlfriend and allegedly assaulted her again. Williams again fled the scene as officers arrived. Williams ran into a wooded area near Mandeville Elementary School which caused the school to go into lockdown.
A St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office k-9 was used to find Williamson. The k-9 found him and subdued Williamson who was eventually taken into custody by officers.
Police say he will be booked with 2 counts domestic violence battery and resisting arrest and will be transported to the St Tammany Parish Jail.
