Karen Carter Peterson, a longtime New Orleans lawmaker who abruptly resigned from the Louisiana Senate on Friday, said in a statement it was because of her long struggle with depression and gambling addiction.
Now The Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate reports she is the subject of a federal investigation.
The source of this information did not give specifics, other than to say that it involved finances and Peterson's gambling problem.
Peterson was in her final senate term, owing to term limits. Her last campaign was in the special election for Louisiana Second Congressional District, which she lost to Troy Carter.
