If you stepped outside this morning and felt that chill, you’re not imagining it. Cooler temperatures are settling into the New Orleans metro area this week, bringing jacket weather for the morning commute.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Mike Efferson says residents can expect cool overnights and mornings through Thursday, with daytime highs staying in the 50s and 60s.

“Each overnight and morning through Thursday will feel chilly,” Efferson says. “Daytime temperatures will be cool, but manageable.”

Efferson says this stretch of cold weather is not expected to turn into a full people, pets, plants, and pipes situation for most of the area. However, he says Northshore residents should remain aware as temperatures flirt with the freezing mark.

“If you have exposed pipes on the Northshore, wrapping them wouldn’t hurt as an extra precaution,” he says.

Looking beyond the workweek, Efferson says the forecast remains anything but steady. He says temperatures and conditions will continue to shift, making preparedness key.

“The weather is going to yo-yo,” Efferson says. “The best advice is to keep a sweater, jacket, umbrella, and even the seat heaters ready to go.”

So, for now, keep the layers handy, especially in the mornings, and be ready to adjust as conditions change.
