The news finally came down after what felt like a never-ending wait for some fans: Kellen Moore will be introduced tomorrow as the new head coach of your New Orleans Saints. After a Super Bowl winning campaign as the Eagles’ offensive coordinator, the offensive wunderkind will be joining the Saints organization as their Head Coach for the 2025-2026 season. A press conference to make the move official is expected on Thursday. Speaking to WWL’s Tommy Tucker, Mike Hoss (who serves as the play by play voice of the Saints), says Moore has always been built to be a head coach. “You’ve got a guy who’s going to be 36 when the season starts next year and he’s been a coach essentially his whole life,” Hoss says. “Moore knew that as a young man playing in college and even high school that coaching on the sidelines was going to be part of his life,” he goes on to add.

Moore will become the 19th coach in the Saints’ storied history when he is formally introduced. He comes into the league with plenty of playing experience as well, playing QB and setting FBS records in the Boise State offense. That said, many might think Moore will lean toward a pass-happy offense. But, Mike Hoss was quick to praise the incoming Saints Head Coach for adjusting to the strengths of his personnel when it comes to guiding his offensive philosophy. “If you look at his six years of service, his offenses have been in the top ten running the football (as far as yards are concerned) ten times. He says you’ve got to know the people in the room. It doesn’t mean being best friends, but you have to understand them. The system is going to built around what you’ve got. There is no ‘Kellen Moore System’ … that system depends on what players are available to him. Because the system is going to be built around them,” Hoss goes on to emphasize.

Moore was inducted into the Boise State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2018 for his efforts at the quarterback position and still holds the record for most wins by a QB in NCAA history for going 50-3 over his four years as a starter for the Boise Broncos. He went on to have offensive coaching roles with the Los Angeles Chargers and Dallas Cowboys before moving on to helm the SB LIX winning Eagles offense that was showcased right here in the Crescent City. Being that battle-tested as opposed to being a flash in the pan is what Hoss says will differentiate Kellen Moore from other candidates. “The NFL tends to take whoever the hot coordinator is from a Super Bowl winning team and make them a head coach. Lots of those guys have only been Offensive Coordinators for one year. Kellen has been an OC for six years, so he’s been more prepared for this job than many who have quick, hot runs and then become a head coach. He’s been in the trenches six times as an OC as opposed to just having a miraculous run in one year,” adds Hoss.

Saints Owner Gayle Benson told reporters it was important to find a coach who was the correct fit for the organization from the very start of the interview process and that it became clear early on that Moore was the right man for the job.
