Governor Jeff Landry has signed a series of bills that he says will "make Louisiana healthy again," and he did so with a VIP from the Trump Administration by his side.

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., joined Landry for Friday's bill signing ceremony in Baton Rouge. Those bills ban artificial colors and additives in meals served in schools, make ivermectin more accessible for human use, and place limits on food stamp recipients' ability to purchase "unhealthy foods."

Landry says these bills will assist Kennedy and President Trump in their efforts to reform American health.

"There was a time when our population was much healthier--when children played outside (and) when recess was a time for physical activity instead of Snapchat and TikTok," Landry said. "Today, Louisiana faces high rates of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer."

Landry said the state naturally provides its residents opportunities to live healthy lifestyles.

"Our culture here in Louisiana provides us with a unique opportunity and advantage: fresh seafood from our waters, produce from some of the richest soil in America, and culinary innovations that the world appreciates, all healthy ways to enjoy food," Landry said. “We’re done letting chemicals, corporations, and career bureaucrats decide what’s best for our families. In Louisiana, we’re putting parents back in charge, putting real food back on the table, and giving people the tools to take their health into their own hands."

Secretary Kennedy says these laws are the first step in a big turnaround for Louisiana and its people's health.

"Louisiana is the 49th state in terms of poor health, and Governor Landry wants to change that," Kennedy said. "I'm confident this bill will do just that."
