A Kenner police officer is in jail this morning after officers from his own department arrested him on malfeasance in office and extortion charges.

According to Kenner Police Chief Keith Conley, Trey Carter, 28, took cash from a driver during a traffic stop Saturday. Conley says he learned about the incident later in the day and launched an investigation. Kenner officers arrested Carter Saturday night.

According to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office inmate roster, no bond has been set for Carter.

In addition to being arrested, Carter has been fired from the Kenner Police Department. He had been on the force for one year.

Conley told WWL-TV that he will "never tolerate this behavior" and that "no one is above the law."
