Kenner Police have released bodycam footage showing the arrest of Saints WR Chris Olave late Monday evening.
The 23-year-old was taken into custody on a charge of reckless operation of a motor vehicle. He was handcuffed and placed into the back of police vehicle outside of him home, where his father stood looking on.
In the video, the arresting officer can be heard telling Olave that he was clocked traveling more than twice the posted limit of 35 mph on Joe Yenni Boulevard. At points the officer said 80 mph, but indicated that he had only clocked the vehicle traveling at 70.
"That's on me. I was just trying to get home," Olave tells the officer.
"I get that," the arresting officer says. "But you can't go over more than double the speed limit."
At one point Olave let the officer know he played for the Saints. The officer responded, "and?"
Police described Olave as cooperative, and he was released from the Kenner City Jail before midnight.
The footage was posted on the department's official YouTube page barely 12 hours after news broke that the 23-year-old had been taken into custody. It's the first time the department posted an arrest video on the channel in such a way, which was originally created in 2017.
In the Louisiana, reckless operation is described as "the operation of any motor vehicle, aircraft, vessel, or other means of conveyance in a criminally negligent or reckless manner."
Olave is in his second year as a member of the New Orleans Saints after behind drafted in the first round out of Ohio State in 2022. He's appeared in all seven games for the Saints this season and is the team's leading receiver. The NFL does not have a demonstrated history of penalizing or suspending players for speeding incidents.
The Saints are next in action on Sunday when they travel to face the Indianapolis Colts.
