Cops in Kenner say a domestic dispute escalated to attempted murder, and one man is under arrest.
Police arrested 21-year-old Junior Carrasco early this morning.
"Carrasco and his girlfriend were reportedly engaged in a heated argument when the situation escalated," police said in a statement. "During the altercation, Carrasco shattered the windshield of the victim’s vehicle before brandishing a knife and stabbing her multiple times in the neck and face."
Police say responding officers immediately rendered aid to the victim. Her injuries are not considered life-threatening.
After the assault, Carrasco barricaded himself inside his residence, according to police. After several hours of negotiations with the Kenner Police SWAT team, Carrasco surrendered.
Police say Carrasco is an undocumented immigrant and a member of the MS-13 gang.
"Obviously, this dangerous individual should have never been in the streets of Kenner, and we will continue to do our job of keeping Kenner safe," said Kenner Police Chief Keith Conley.
