Kenner Police have issued a warning to the public about a dangerous alligator after a woman's dog was attacked and killed Saturday near the pumping station next to Laketown.
"August 8, an individual was walking her dog along the lakefront area by the Gabriel Pumping Station when her do was attacked and taken by an alligator," police warned.
The woman, Jessica Reynolds, told WWL-TV that it happened so fast she knew her 6-year-old pit bull, Brownie, never had a chance.
"Before I knew it, he was gone," she said.
Kenner Police say the East Jefferson Levee District, which has jurisdiction over the area, was notified and animal control officials responded to the area.
Police say residents need to be careful around waterways, especially with small children and pets.
