Krewe of Caerus, we barely knew ye.

The Metairie Mardi Gras organization that was set to make its first trip down the Veterans Blvd. parade route has now canceled that ride, according to krewe official Anthony Reddix Jr.

The parade, whose name was taken from the Greek god of luck and opportunity, was supposed to sport 200 riders across 14 floats.

But Reddix said the krewe was $12,000 short of the funds necessary to pay Jefferson Parish and the float builder, even though deadlines had been extended, according to NOLA.com.

Caerus was slated to follow Atlas down the Veterans parade route on Sunday, Feb. 4, the final day of the annual Family Gras festival. It is now the fourth parade to cancel its ride for the 2024 Carnival Season in Metairie.

The Krewe of Culinary Queens of New Orleans was to role on Feb. 6 on the West Bank route but also was unable to raise the funds needed to roll.

Little Rascals and the Krewe of Jefferson both canceled before Carnival season even got underway.

Jefferson Parish still has 11 float parades scheduled, including two on the West Bank.
