The Zulu Social Aid &Pleasure Club announces they will not be electing a King or Queen in 2021.

In a release, the Carnival krewe stated the decision was necessary to protect its krewe members and the public.

"The science tells us that Mardi Gras 2020 was likely a super spreader that contributed to the pain that the world is experiencing," the release said. "We wholeheartedly agree that we should not do that again."

The Zulu board of directors are also deciding whether to have a Zulu Ball in 2021.

“Our Coronation Ball is typically attended by 17,000 guests, held in the New Orleans Morial Convention Center, but it is probable that the status of the virus and the safety restrictions will make this event, in this format, impossible to hold,” the statement said. “To be clear, this organization is prepared to take whatever steps necessary to ensure the safety of our members and guests.”

The krewe of Zulu says they are in support of parades being canceled this Mardi Gras season. The krewe also adds the only other time they did not parade was in 1979.
