Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill says she has ordered a "full review of security plans from New Year's Eve and the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans."
The investigation seeks to answer questions about the planning and execution of security measures for New Orleans in the wake of a lone terrorist's deadly assault on Bourbon Street.
"The People of Louisiana deserve answers," said Murrill in a statement. "I have spoken to (New Orleans Police) Chief Anne Kirkpatrick and she has pledged complete support and cooperation with this review."
The investigation will review such matters as security assessments and recommendations; use of federal, state, and local security funding; assets and allocations; coordination between local, state, and federal partners, and operational failures.
"It's my hope that our findings will help provide our law enforcement officers and the City of New Orleans with the tools and insight they need to best ensure the safety of the community and our many visitors," said Murrill.
