Louisiana lawmakers took to social media to denounce angry Trump supporters storming the U.S. Capitol. The protesters raided the Capitol shortly after President Trump held a huge rally near the White House.

The violent protests prompted some Louisiana lawmakers to condemn the Trump supporters’ actions.

“This is supposed to be a peaceful transition of power. What they’re doing is absolutely wrong. It is un-American. This is about our country; it’s not about hooligans,” U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy said.

“Attacks on law enforcement officers trying to do their jobs are never acceptable. Period,” said U.S. Rep.  Steve Scalise.

U.S. Sen. John Kennedy, U.S. Rep. Clay Higgins, and U.S. Rep. Mike Johnson joined Scalise in voting against certifying President-elect Joe Biden’s Electorial College victory. Those proceedings were interrupted by the violent protests.

Rep. Clay Higgins also tweeted his disgust in the violent protests saying, “Violence and lawlessness are unacceptable. This must end now. This is not American.”
