Baton Rouge is sending assistance to New Orleans as officials work to certify petitions to recall Mayor LaToya Cantrell.
WWL's Newell Normand confirmed with Louisiana Secretary of State's Office Spokesman John Tobler that the state will be allowed to provide secretary of state personnel to handle the day to day operations of the Orleans Registrar of Voters Office in order to free up the the registrar's personnel to handle certification of recall signatures.
The decision came after consultation with general counsel for the Louisiana Secretary of State's office which is the Louisiana Attorney General's office.
The decision was also coordinated with the Registrar of Voters Council and the Orleans Registrar of Voters office.
This frees up Wilson's staff to focus their full attention on the tens of thousands of submitted signatures and the 20 working day deadline they face to review them in the certification process.
