A Louisiana woman who allegedly altered her story multiple times to police has been charged in the stabbing death of her ex-girlfriend.
Chelsea McKenzly, 28, was found by officers of the Little Rock Police Department in the parking lot of an apartment complex next to her Nissan Sentra and a dead body wrapped in blankets.
LRPD says that, initially, McKenzly told police that she was only visiting from Monroe, La., and found her friend dead in the parking lot.
A drag mark was visible trailing from a nearby apartment’s doorway.
Speaking to residents of neighboring apartments, police learned McKenzly lived with the victim in the apartment and were told the two constantly fought.
One resident told police that just such an altercation had occurred the day before, and that McKenzly asked them for help moving the body.
McKenzly then told police that she did live in the apartment with her on-again, off-again girlfriend, and that she found the victim in the doorway to the apartment and was trying to transport her to a hospital but found she was too heavy to move alone, prompting her to ask for help from a neighbor.
Later, McKenzly would alter her statement again to admit to a physical altercation on the previous day and claimed it was the victim who introduced the knife into the argument and choked her, which prompted McKenzly to push the victim against the wall and stab her multiple times.
McKenzly said she then wrapped the victim in a blanket and cleaned the area, then left the victim in the apartment to travel to Monroe, a trip she makes often to see her children, as well as attend court proceedings.
She told police that she had planned to take the body to the hospital when she returned.
McKenzly has been charged with first-degree murder, abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence.
