Members of the Louisiana National Guard will soon be patrolling the streets of Washington, D. C.
On Monday, Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry announced that he is deploying around 135 Louisiana National Guardsmen to the nation's capital to assist with President Trump's federal crime crackdown there. In a social media post, Landry said that the United States is a "nation of law and order" and that he is proud to support the president's mission to "return safety and sanity to Washington, D.C."
"I have approved the deployment of approximately 135 Louisiana National Guard soldiers to Washington, DC to assist in President Donald J. Trump’s mission of restoring safety and peace in our nation’s capital," Landry wrote. We cannot allow our cities to be overcome by violence and lawlessness. I am proud to support this mission to return safety and sanity to Washington DC and cities all across our country, including right here in Louisiana."
Landry's statement about returning "safety and sanity" to Louisiana comes less than a week after California Governor Gavin Newsom called on President Trump to send troops to Shreveport because of its high per-capita crime rate.
