Need to borrow some cookware for a special meal? How about a sewing machine to stitch up that hem? Starting tomorrow, you can get them at the Jefferson Parish Public Library in Terrytown.
It's the "Library of Things." Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng says they have spent months curating the kinds of things people may need, but not own.
"You're going to be able to check out, a lot of it is cooking items, or tools or musical instruments," Sheng said. "You know, a turntable, a ravioli kit, an Instant Pot, a Bundt pan shaped like a heart."
Sheng told WWL's Tommy Tucker that a lot of people may not need to use a heart-shaped Bundt cake pan often enough to own one. This is an opportunity to use stuff like that free of charge two weeks at time.
"Like it's an anniversary, you need a heart-shaped cookie, but you don't want to have that, have to store that all year," she said.
Sheng says it is also an opportunity to try something you might have thought about buying at the store.
"I want to see how to make a mini-waffle...how does that work? Maybe I will buy it, but let me try it out."
The Jefferson Parish Public Library holds a kickoff event for its "Library of Things," Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Terrytown branch. Sheng says they plan to expand it to the other branches, too.
