A lightning strike sparked a two-alarm fire at a New Orleans East apartment complex early Tuesday morning, leaving some residents without a home.
Firefighters received the call around 1:20 a.m. Tuesday from the Chateau Carmel Apartments on the North I-10 Service Road just off Bullard Avenue.
Witnesses told firefighters they saw a lightning strike just before the fire started. That fire was contained to two third-floor apartments in Building 7, though neighboring units suffered some damage. Firefighters say all of the residents of that building were evacuated safely.
Although nobody was injured, the fire displaced four residents.
