New Orleans Mayor Helena Moreno today announces more details on the demolition of the abandoned Lindy Boggs hospital in Mid-City.
Moreno said Sunday that demolition would begin today on the long-blighted property.
It is something neighbors have been waiting for.
"Our neighborhood has been fighting for a very long time," said Michelle Schlafly with the Mid-City Neighborhood Association.
Schlafly said ever since the owners of the hospital pulled up stakes nearly 21 years ago after Hurricane Katrina, the building has been a hulking eyesore in their neighborhood.
"It's exciting for Mid City because we are one of the most beautiful areas of the city," she told WWL's Newell Normand.
Today, Mayor Moreno will talk about the demolition schedule, how it will proceed, and what measures will be taken to keep the neighborhood safe, while the long-dormant property is finally torn down.
