If you who missed out on a fortified roof grant earlier this year, you're in luck. The Louisiana Department of Insurance will give you another chance to get one.
Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple told WWL's Newell Normand that Governor Jeff Landry approached him about boosting funding for the state's fortified roof program.
"He's identified some additional moneys that they are going to put into, I believe, additional fortified roof initiatives," Temple said.
According to Temple, his office awarded 3,000 fortified roof grants to Louisiana homeowners this year. Temple says his office will award even more grants in the coming months.
"We're getting ready to allocate . . . We have another $50 million," Temple said, noting that the money came from excess assessments dating back to Hurricane Katrina. "We were able to allocate that out of Louisiana Citizens (Insurance) back into the fortified program. We're getting ready to push out another 5,000 grants."
Temple says details about how to apply for those new grants will be announced soon.
"We're in the process of finalizing what that would look like, and I hope to have some information in October."
Temple and Governor Landry will hold a press conference to discuss the fortified roof program at 2 p.m. Monday.
