Just because criminal charges against Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill have been dropped does not mean she's willing to consider the matter over and done.

"This case should have NEVER been started because there was NO crime," Murrill said in a statement Wednesday morning.

"This outcome will not deter my efforts to get to the bottom of this. The irresponsible and illegal actions that led to this abuse of the criminal justice system need to never happen again," said Murrill.

Special prosecutor Laurie White dismissed the case at the urging of New Orleans city officials, including Mayor Helen Moreno and District Attorney Jason Williams, who said the charges against the attorney general will creating a distraction when the city of New Orleans and state of Louisiana needed to be working together.

While numerous city officials have denied involvement with the charges, Murrill plainly stated, "I don't believe that's true."

"The district attorney's office was recused," said Murrill. "He (Jason Williams) said multiple times that they had nothing to do with it and I can tell you that I have had multiple people tell me that that is not true."

And Murrill said the public letters from Williams, Mayor Helena Moreno, members of the city council and others were more about covering their tracks than serving justice.

"I think it's because they want to hide records," said Murrill. "So let me be real clear about that: I think all of that came when we issued subpoenas."

Murrill said if New Orleans officials are trying to show that they want to work in partnership with state leaders, they never should have let it come to this.

"That dismissal of that indictment today was not an effort to simply get us all back together to be friends again," Murrill said. "You can't be friends with somebody who wants to put you in jail for 80 years."
