
Officials from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries are offering a reward for information on the person who shot and killed a whooping crane.
The shooting took place near Mamou, La., according to KLFY-TV.
The juvenile whooping crane’s body was found on January 9 in an agricultural pond, according to the Center for Biological Diversity.
The number of whooping cranes in the wild had dwindled at one point to just 40 but their cultivation and protection has led to that number rising to several hundred.
