Liberation Day has come and gone, and many are left scrambling for answers about what the fallout might be for local businesses. Will Green, President and CEO of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry, in speaking with WWL’s Tommy Tucker, conceded that tariffs are essentially taxes and will cause some economic pains.

“When we talk about competing in a global marketplace, our members rely on fair, open, and predictable trade rules.  Tariffs are a tax, and they’ve created a lot of uncertainty and instability and that’s a tremendous challenge,” Green emphasized.

Green admits that while he’s generally supportive of the idea of onshoring and reshoring, stopping the theft of intellectual property, securing the border and creating free trade agreements, he admits that pains will be felt. “Onshoring and reshoring takes time. While some members can benefit from this and withstand some short-term pain for long-term gain, but others will be tremendously challenged by this,” Green goes on to say.
